Arkham Horror: The Card Game has topped our list for some time now. It is a board game/card game (they are pretty much one in the same, you'll need the table or floor real-estate for it) that pits your characters against the ghouls and creatures of H.P. Lovecraft lore, allowing them to level up and progress their inventory and abilities through multiple scenarios. They coin it a "living card game", although how you play by the rules is your call.
The game is fantastic. The artwork is top-notch. The worlds are imaginative and complex. Arkham Horror: The Card Game has a masterfully built system - one of, if not, THE best - and rewards cooperation between players, which for us is the winning feature. We welcome competition, but to work together and strategize how to overcome the nightmares thrown at you is a far more enjoyable experience.
Get your partner or your friends and have a go. The rules are many and can be overwhelming at first, but if you follow the campaigns in order, the base game has a booklet for a dry-run that you can follow to a tee. Use it to learn, then experiment on scenario 2. Get in the mood, set the tone, become the characters. This game is a must play! Block off an hour or two and enjoy!
